In 2007, PSA has won the concession agreement to build and operate a Container Terminal inside Chennai Port Trust. CITPL started operations in 2009 with 3 QCs and 10 RTGs and expanded to 7 QCs and 18 RTGs in 2012.

Chennai Port is the third oldest port among the 12 Major Ports in India and has completed 135 years of glorious service to India’s Maritime Trade.
The Port consists of 3 docks, 24 berths with berth drafts ranging from 12m to 16.5m, serving as a Trade Hub for containers, cars and project cargo in India East Coast.
The Port has 4 operational gates for different truck movements. At Gate 1, an “8” lane gate complex with RFID capability serves the container trucks. Within Chennai Port, there are 4 dedicated lanes for the container trucks to access CITPL.
Chennai Port has a scanning centre and CFS facilities for special cargo inspection purpose. As a major port, the CISF “Central Industrial Security force” are also deployed to safeguard the national and port interest.

CITPL is the only Container Terminal in Chennai that has an on dock rail siding facility with 2 lines of 725 meters each capable of handling 2 rakes simultaneously. With regular Export and Import rakes, CITPL customers enjoy seamless connectivity to and from vessels.
Our terminal offers direct connection to Chennai Tondiapert ICD/CFS, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Delhi and other ICDs.
